Program Purpose: 

The MSRIP is an eight-week summer research program designed to increase the number of outstanding students from diverse backgrounds who pursue the Ph.D. by strengthening their academic and professional development for admission to the University of California campuses and UC Riverside, in particular, as well as colleges and universities nationwide.

Program Description: 

The eight-week MSRIP program activities include: GRE prep course, applying to graduate school workshop, financing your graduate education workshop, graduate student experience workshop, making a successful presentation workshop, developing a research abstract, research symposium, and some cultural and social activities. Research areas include: physical, biological, and agricultural sciences; chemical/environmental, electrical, and mechanical engineering; computer sciences; mathematics; social sciences; humanities and education.

Program Benefits: 

Students will be awarded a stipend of no less than $3,000. In addition to the stipend, students will receive room and board and out of state transportation.

Application Process: 

Applicants should familiarize themselves with the current MSRIP Faculty Research Projects and indicate, on the application, the faculty mentors with whom they would like to work.

Applicant Profile: 

Applicant must have an interest in pursuing a graduate degree (i.e. master's or doctoral). Students from educationally and/or economically disadvantaged backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

Eligibility: 

Juniors and seniors from a 4-year institution, and first-year master's students enrolling at UC Riverside.

Citizenship: 

U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Program Deadline: 

Usually early February.
