Program Purpose: 

The King Hall Outreach Program (KHOP) is a unique initiative that equips high potential undergraduate students from underrepresented communities with the skills necessary to excel in the law school admissions process, and introduces students to current law students, lawyers and faculty members at UC Davis School of Law. Among KHOP alumni, ninety-nine percent have graduated from a four-year institution. Forty-one percent are enrolled or have graduated from a law program. KHOP has received the California State Bar Education Pipeline Award for its important role in diversifying the legal profession.

Program Description: 

This no-cost program consists of the KHOP Winter Session (held in January/February) and KHOP Summer Session (held in July/August) which provide a series of full-day Saturday presentations and workshops throughout the winter and spring quarter/semester. During the program, participants prepare for the law school application process, gain insight into the law school experience and receive exposure to a variety of legal fields. Participants receive individual pre-law advising with the Davis School of Law Admissions staff to develop law school admission action plans.

Application Process: 

An income tax return or financial aid award letter is required.

Applicant Profile: 

Applicants should intend to apply to law school, but not be currently in the process of applying for law school enrollment.

Eligibility: 

Undergraduates at least two years from graduation who are either first-generation college students (no parent or legal guardian has a bachelor's degree), or come from an economically disadvantaged background (defined as having a household income less than or equal to 200% of the federal poverty guidelines, which can be found at http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/ ). A minimum 3.2 GPA is required as calculated on a 4.33 scale.

Obligations: 

Awardees must attend all Saturday session meetings.

Program Deadline: 

Application deadlines are usually in January and May.
