Program Purpose: 

EAPSI's primary goals are to introduce students to East Asia and Pacific science and engineering, and to help participants initiate scientific relationships that will enable future collaboration with foreign counterparts.

Program Description: 

EAPSI provides U.S. graduate students in science and engineering with research experience at host laboratories in Australia, China, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, or Taiwan. All institutes, except Japan, last approximately 8 weeks from June to August; Japan lasts approximately 10 weeks from June to August.

Supported Fields: 

EAPSI supported fields of study are the Biological Sciences; Computer and Information Science and Engineering; Education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics); Engineering; Geosciences; Mathematical and Physical Sciences; Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences; Environmental Research; and Multidisciplinary Research.

Program Benefits: 

The Institute provides travel and living expenses, the cost of attending a pre-departure orientation in Washington, D.C., an orientation to the science environment and culture of the host location, and a $5,000 stipend.

Applicant Profile: 

Applicant must be pursuing studies in fields of science and engineering research and education supported by the National Science Foundation.

Eligibility: 

Graduate students in a research-oriented master's, M.D., or Ph.D. degree program.

Citizenship: 

U.S. citizens or permanent residents only.

Program Deadline: 

Usually in November.
