Program Purpose: 

The National Biosafety and Biocontainment Training Program Fellowship has been established by a partnership between the Division of Occupational Health and Safety (DOHS) and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at National Institutes of Health in Maryland. The NIH Bethesda Campus provides a rare opportunity for professional training in biosafety and biocontainment at one of the foremost biomedical research centers in the world.

Program Description and Benefits: 

The 2-year NBBTP Fellowship prepares fellows for a career in biosafety and biocontainment through academic training, mentoring projects, travel to off-site conferences and training sessions. A monthly stipend is provided based on the NIH RTA scale for pre-doctoral and post-doctoral students; a small budget for relocation may be available.

Applicant Profile: 

Applicants are invited with graduate degrees in microbiology, public health, medicine (human or veterinary), or other allied sciences (industrial hygiene, engineering, etc.). Successful applicants will have microbiology or research laboratory experience combined with excellent communication and team-building skills, professional performance, employment history, and recommendations.

Eligibility: 

Applicants must possess a minimum of a master's degree in the life sciences (or a related field).

Obligations: 

NBBTP Fellows must be willing to relocate to the Bethesda, MD area for two years, and be able to travel to participate in multi-week assignments.

Citizenship: 

U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or nationals.
