Program Description: 

The Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship is funded by the Office of Science and the National Nuclear Security Administration and trains students pursuing Ph.D.s in scientific or engineering disciplines, with an emphasis in high-performance computing, to meet national workforce needs. The fellowship provides support and guidance to some of the nation's best scientific graduate students who now work in DOE laboratories, private industry and educational institutions.

Supported Fields: 

Supported areas include, but are not limited to: aerospace and aeronautical engineering, applied mathematics , astronomy, biomedical applications and engineering, biology, chemistry, computer science, computational fluid dynamics, electrical and computer engineering, environmental science and engineering, materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, nuclear engineering, oceanography, physics.

Program Benefits: 

The fellowship, which is renewable for a total of 4 years, provides all tuition and fees, a yearly stipend of $36,000 , a $5,000 allowance for research activities, $1,000 academic allowance each renewed year for computer support. Fellowship includes a 12-week research practicum.

Applicant Profile: 

Fellowship students represent diverse scientific and engineering disciplines but the common thread is their use of mathematical and computing techniques for their research.

Citizenship: 

U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Program Deadline: 

Usually in January.
