Program Description:
This prestigious prize recognizes students under 18 who have completed an important piece of work in literature, mathematics, music, philosophy, science, technology or "Outside the Box" (graduate level work in another field).
Program Benefits:
The 20 recipients – who are asked to commit to helping other highly intelligent students develop their talents – receive cash awards for university tuition and expenses: scholarships are $10,000 and $25,000; Fellows Laureate receive $50,000. All are honored in Washington, D.C. with Congressional meetings and a special reception.
Application Process:
Include a detailed project or portfolio, and nominations by a mentor or supervising scientist, teacher or administrator, and a professional in the field familiar with applicant's work.
Applicant Profile:
Applicant's submission must be an exceptionally creative demonstration of existing knowledge; a new idea with high impact; a unique application; an innovative solution with broad-range implications; an important advancement that can be replicated and built upon; an interdisciplinary discovery with potential to effect positive change; or other demonstration of extraordinary accomplishment.
Eligibility:
Applicant must be under 18.
Citizenship:
U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
Program Deadline:
Usually early February.
How To Apply:
Students or alumni, as applicable, may apply directly to this program. Applicants are encouraged, however, to work with the SF State fellowship advisor well in advance of the program deadline to perfect their application essays and other materials.
