Program Purpose: 

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is the German national agency for the support of international academic cooperation. It offers programs and funding for students, faculty, researchers and others in higher education, represents the German higher education system abroad, and promote Germany as an academic and research destination.

Program Description: 

The EMGIP-Bundestag Program provides 2-month internships in the German parliament ("Bundestag") for US and Canadian students fluent in German. In addition to contributing to their respective offices, interns study legislative and administrative procedures in the German parliament.

Program Benefits: 

Compensation is approximately €1,100 per month from the German Bundestag. Subsidized health insurance is available through DAAD for a monthly fee. DAAD can help interns obtain housing in Berlin and make contacts with fellow international interns and German students. Travel expenses are the intern's responsibility.

Applicant Profile: 

Applicants should be in fields such as political science, international relations, law, history, economics or German, be fluent in spoken German and possess excellent writing skills.

Eligibility: 

Juniors and seniors and master's students.

Citizenship: 

U.S. and Canadian citizens and permanent residents. International students enrolled in full-time course of study in the U.S. or Canada are also eligible.

Program Deadline: 

Usually September.

Students or alumni, as applicable, may apply directly to this program. Applicants are encouraged, however, to work with SF State's fellowship advisor well in advance of the program deadline to perfect their application essays and other materials.
