Program Purpose:

Anderson Ranch offers an artists' residency program designed to encourage the creative, intellectual and personal growth of emerging and established visual artists.

Program Description:

The Ranch strives to have an equal mix of emerging and established artists working together. Artists in residence live and work at Anderson Ranch for approximately a ten week period. The residency is designed to allow artists to take risks and pursue new projects and ideas, free from everyday pressures. During the residency, artists share in an established community of interaction, conceptual development, and intense production of work. There is also an optional structure of critical study that includes studio visits and visiting artists such as Roy Dowell, Brian Tolle, Polly Apfelbaum and Sanford Biggers. The residency is offered during two terms each year: approximately mid-October to mid-November, and February through mid-April.

Supported Fields:

Media, ceramics, digital media/photography, furniture design/wood/sculpture, painting and drawing, printmaking, sculpture.

Applicant Profile:

The residency is for artists desirous of advancing their work or creating a new body of work. "Emerging Artists" will be in the critical early stages of their career. Typical residents might include those who completed BFA or MFA programs within the past ten years. "Established Artists" have established a career in the visual arts. Typical residents include those who have had a major exhibition, or had pieces placed in major collections. They may also teach visual arts in respected colleges and universities. Most will have had more than ten years of active studio practice.
