CDIP Program Benefits

Forgivable Loans

The Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive Program (CDIP) offers loans of up to $10,000 per year for three years over a 5 year period.  The loans are forgivable at the rate of 20 percent for each year of full-time postdoctoral teaching employment in the CSU or 10 percent for each year of part-time postdoctoral teaching employment in the CSU.

A detailed description of the loan program can be found on the CDIP Loans page.

Mentorship

The program enhances the prospects of its Fellows through its mentorship component. Through collaborative teaching, research, and/or service activities, faculty mentors:

  • Support CDIP Fellows’ successful completion of their doctoral studies;
  • Enhance their potential for employment in an instructional faculty position at a CSU.

Information about the faculty mentor’s role can be found on the CDIP Mentorship page.

Mini-Grants

After the first year in CDIP, Fellows making satisfactory academic progress and in good standing in their programs are invited to apply for the CDIP mini-grant program. This program provides up to $2,500 for Fellows to implement activities collaboratively proposed by the faculty sponsor and fellow. Mini-grants may fund travels for research and professional activities, purchase of books, equipment and software, and subscriptions for professional memberships or journals. The program also provides up to three mini-grants of up to $1,500 each for Fellows for conference attendance, and up to three grants of up to $1,500 each for Faculty Mentors for attending conferences with the Scholar.

Scholars who have received a mini-grant in a prior year must have submitted a final report by the proposed deadline in order to be eligible for this year’s funding. Invited Scholars can submit a maximum of three Mini-Grant proposals over a period of 4 consecutive years.
