The New Leader Scholarship provides aid to extraordinary upper division or graduate students in Bay Area public universities who are pursuing or planning to pursue advanced education in the social sciences, human services, health-related fields, public interest law or public service. The program is committed to supporting disadvantaged students, recent immigrants, and people of color who have demonstrated leadership capacities and a commitment to community service. SF State applicants must be full-time students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5, have been a student at the University for at least a year (60 units or more, 24 of which were attained at SF State), be from a financially or educationally disadvantaged background, and their area of study must be the social sciences, human services, public interest law, health-related fields, or public service. Consideration will be given to students who have a 3.5 GPA at SF State only, and to students with a GPA of 3.2 - 3.49. Applicants for a graduate level scholarship must have been a prior New Leader Scholarship recipient at the undergraduate level, planning to enroll in a graduate program at a public university in California in the next academic year. The award is for up to $8,000. Funds can be used for tuition and/or living expenses. Additional assistance for costs of graduate school application and graduate entry exams may also be available to recipients. Deadline is generally in early Spring.
How To Apply:
Students or alumni, as applicable, may apply directly to this program. Applicants are encouraged, however, to work with the Fellowship Advisor well in advance of the program deadline to perfect their application essays and other materials.
