Worldstudio AIGA (formerly an acronym for the "American Institute of Graphic Arts") Scholarships allow young people from minority and economically disadvantaged backgrounds not only to realize their artistic dreams, but also to give back to their communities. Each year, the scholarship program supports talented and deserving students of art and design. Supported fields are film/theatre design (costume, set, lighting), fine arts, graphic design, film/video direction or cinematography and photography. Basic scholarships are from $1,000-$3,000. Grand Prize awards are up to $5,000, at the jury's discretion. Awards are paid directly to schools to be applied towards tuition. Honorable mention cash prizes of $200 are also awarded. Scholarship recipients are selected for their ability and their need, alongside their demonstrated commitment to giving back to the larger community through their work. Undergraduates in a supported field, with a minimum 2.0 GPA, are eligible to apply, as are graduating seniors admitted to a graduate program in a supported field. Additional requirements include that the applicant be a minority student or from an economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Prior winners may reapply. U.S. citizens and permanent residents only. Deadline usually in the Spring.
